Online Shopping Emails

If you're anything like me, you like to online shop. In addition, you'll tell anybody anything they want to get free shipping or a discount! So...This causes people like us to get millions of emails from online retailers hoping to entice us into purchasing mass quantities of there goods. But do any of the emails work? If they do, what makes the emails most effective?

Having a lot of experience receiving emails (many lame some drool-worthy) I feel as though I have some ideas.

The major "Don't" in email marketing is don't be too excessive. Too many emails from one website causes those on the receiving end to simply delete. As if opening web page documents on my Bold BB wasn't difficult enough, they are expecting me to do it 20 times a day? Nuh uh. Ain't gon' happen! Basically, if you send me too many emails, and the subject line isn't life changing, I'm going to delete it out of annoyance. Keep it coming and next week I'm going to unsubscribe!

One of my favorite online boutiques is Revolve Clothing. I've been trolling the website for over a year and have witnessed several changes in their online (through their website) and email marketing.

Firstly, they made it possible for users to have accounts on their website. These accounts aren't your normal "Hey! We'll remember your credit card info and shipping address to make your check out easier" accounts. (Which, I must admit, are pretty handy) Their accounts allow you to make a boutique for yourself. Mine is titled "Kendra's Boutique"...Who would have thunk it?

In my boutique I get to see all my favorite brands in the same spot! So...When I'm not looking for anything besides a pick-me-up, I can meander through the walkways of my own boutique and check out all the items that float my boat from my favorite brands.

In addition, Revolve Clothing created a "favorite-ing" option in which you can "favorite" specific items and refer back to them at any time. The favorite option is the same for things such as brands and trends.

Most the emails that get sent to me are "linked" back to my Boutique. So, whenever they get new clothes in from brands I have "Favorited" they let me know! The other emails I receive(once a week or so) are general emails. But, because I often expect them to send me emails with my favorite brands, I check them out! When I like what I see, I can add the new brand or trend to my Boutique and get alerted about it!

So...Basically on Revolve Clothing I get alerted of when they get new items from my favorite brands and an easy way to track what they are carrying.

To be honest, this isn't even half of what the "boutique" option offers. There is much more! As I keep expanding my uses of it, I'll keep you posted!

In a world of too many, too often, and too lame emails...I'm glad some companies are getting it right!
