Facebook Promotion

I was scrolling through my mini-feed, on Facebook, today, when I came across a Coach photo album.

Coach had created a "look-book"-type promotion using Facebook and the photo album application. The look-book consisted of different products that Coach offers, from handbags to jewelry and accessories, placed in "life-like" situations.

This isn't the first time companies have used look-books to promote their products. As a customer it often helps to see a product on a person, styled different ways, rather than just the product by itself. However, since the exploding of social media use by companies and use in general, companies have been finding new ways to promote their brad and market their latest products using it.

The genius part of using Facebook and other social media sites to market your company and show your products, it that consumers already exist on social media. Millions and millions of people use social media everyday. You don't have to coax them to a website. So, even though a user may not be thinking about shopping or your brand, they can still stumble upon an item of yours, like it, and THEN decide to visit your website or store to make the purchase.

Also, using Facebook allows information (products, images, promotions, etc.) to spread like wildfire. Not everyone "likes" every company or brand on Facebook, but everyone is connected through "friends" somehow. All it takes if for someone to "like" or "comment" on a picture or post for the spreading to begin. Then, it can be hard to stop.

If your wondering; yes...I saw a handbag I liked. ;D

Online Shopping Reviews

Have you ever purchased something online, and after receiving it, you got an email asking you to review the item?

Urban Outfitters does this.

When companies, such as Urban Outfitters, allow customers to make reviews it is a way of building trust with customers. It can have both positive and negative affects on sales. Iffy customers, either new to the company or unsure of a product, will be affirmed that what they are contemplating purchasing is a good buy. However, if a product receives bad reviews, it may turn customers away from a product, or the company as a whole.

I recently received an email from Urban Outfitters asking me to write a review on a purchase. The email I received had the request, in addition to the latest product I purchased and other products for sale.

I wasn't busy at the time, and really liked the shoes that I bought so, I took the time to write a review.

Looking back, the email they sent me was a very good idea. I already purchased something, so they know that I like what they offer. In addition, it gets me back on their website if I make the review. Since I'm already there, why wouldn't I shop around? Make another purchase, maybe? It also shows that they care about what I think about their products. Urban Outfitters wants their customers to be happy with their purchases, otherwise they won't come back. If nothing else, it simply reminds me that they exist.

Creating Relationships Digitally

To develop and gain long-term or life-time customers, companies need to create relationships. Customers want to know that they can trust a company and its ideas, goods, and services. Customers also often want to feel like they are important to the company.

In the digital age this idea has taken on an entire new meaning.

QVC, a home shopping channel, is a great example of how to create relationships with customers. QVC has embraced the internet and digital marketing using social media in addition to their website. QVC offers official Facebook and twitter pages in addition to many hosts creating Facebook and twitter page.

QVC's official facebook page and twitter account both promote the channel and website. Promotion through these mediums is done for all shows and promotions on QVC. This includes "hot picks," "today's special values," easy-pay, and discounted products. Friends and followers are also told of guests that are scheduled to appear on shows. These social media sites offer a platform for QVC consumers to interact with QVC efficiently and regularly as well as interact other customers and ask questions as well as discuss products.

QVC also has several host Facebook and twitter accounts. One example is David Venable (twitter). Host of several shows, including "In the Kitchen with David." He asks viewers and followers to interact with him through social media by sharing recipes, favorite meals and cooking-related ideas. Consumers can also ask David questions about products on air and online.

QVC also offers apps on androids and iPhones that make it easier for customers to interact with each other and make purchases.

It is through using digital marketing that companies, such as QVC, are able to connect with their customers to develop life-long relationships that are good for both the consumer and the company.

Internet Malfuctions

Hello Hello!

I've got some very good news!

Yesterday, I received and email from Taylor Swift (not personally...) saying that my free sample of Wonderstuck (her new perfume! Check it out HERE!)! I'm very happy :)

Unfortunately, my Burberry Body sample has not arrived yet. If I remember correctly it said that it would take "6 to 8 weeks." Pretty sure I could come up with my own perfume in 6 to 8 weeks. But whatever.

To the main subject, now.

Marketing digitally, you can run into a lot of issues. Taylor Swifts facebook page originally had some issues:

After seeing the tweet about the free sample, I automatically clicked on the link (I love free stuff. Who doesn't?!) The link brought me to Taylor's facebook page, but the form needed to fill out for your free sample was completely messed up. There weren't any real boxes, and it's appearance was messed up (it was obvious). Yet, I still filled out the messed up form the best I could. Once at the end, though, I ran into a roadblock. There was no "submit" button. No way for me to send in my information.

To say I was annoyed is understated.

Problems like this can turn a lot of potential customers away. This can lead to tons of money lost through sales.

You're probably thinking "How did you submit it, then?"

Well, luckily for Taylor, I'm a very devoted fan. :) The following days after the issue, I checked several times to see if the problem was fixed. And they fixed it!

It's important for companies to make sure that all digital marketing methods are just as thoroughly checked and work EXACTLY as is needed.

Fortunately for myself and all other Taylor Swift fans they fixed it! :) You should order your free sample of Wonderstruck off Taylor's facebook page, now!

Have a great Vampire Diaries Thursday!
I know I will!

Wonderstruck

Hey world!

Today, I signed up to receive another free sample of perfume! Similar to the Burberry body that I signed up to receive (still waiting...) Taylor Swift's "Wonderstruck" fragrance was advertised online through facebook and twitter!

In honor of her new perfume, I thought it would be appropriate to share a song that relates to her new fragrance! Listen and read on, my friends!

"I'm wonder-struck, blushing all the way home"-Taylor Swift

Taylor has been quoted on her facebook page as well as on her official website saying that the name came from her song, and that similar to songs, scents can take you back and cause you to recall memories.

To sign up for your own free sample (limited quantities) visit Taylor's officially website (click "wonderstuck" above, or 'like' the Taylor Swift page on facebook. There is a simple form to fill out...that's it!

I can't wait to get my sample and tell you how it smells! ...Burberry needs to hurry up as well!

Hope your week started out well!

"Liking" Fashion

Many brands have been finding new ways to spread the word about their company and products by using digital advertising.

One way for brands to increase knowledge about what they have to offer is though facebook. They aren't just leaving their social media marketing to their facebook pages...They are looking for responses and actions by their customers and fans!

Have you ever been shopping online and while checking out a product, you noticed a small "f" facebook "like" button. Companies, such as True Religion, Urban Outfitters, Express, Seven for all Mankind, and Burberry are all using this marketing method. Don't believe me? Check it out!!

Throughout recent history the number of online retailers that offer this option have increased a lot. In addition, many online companies allow customers to tweet the product or brand as well as email information!

If you think about it, it's almost crazy how connected facebook is to the world...or at least the cyber world. Thinking about how fast these changes have occurred, and projecting changes into the future...well...it leaves me speechless! Someone, somewhere is brainstorming the next way to reach customers through social media. Who knows...maybe we'll be shopping off of facebook someday!

Online Shopping Emails

If you're anything like me, you like to online shop. In addition, you'll tell anybody anything they want to get free shipping or a discount! So...This causes people like us to get millions of emails from online retailers hoping to entice us into purchasing mass quantities of there goods. But do any of the emails work? If they do, what makes the emails most effective?

Having a lot of experience receiving emails (many lame some drool-worthy) I feel as though I have some ideas.

The major "Don't" in email marketing is don't be too excessive. Too many emails from one website causes those on the receiving end to simply delete. As if opening web page documents on my Bold BB wasn't difficult enough, they are expecting me to do it 20 times a day? Nuh uh. Ain't gon' happen! Basically, if you send me too many emails, and the subject line isn't life changing, I'm going to delete it out of annoyance. Keep it coming and next week I'm going to unsubscribe!

One of my favorite online boutiques is Revolve Clothing. I've been trolling the website for over a year and have witnessed several changes in their online (through their website) and email marketing.

Firstly, they made it possible for users to have accounts on their website. These accounts aren't your normal "Hey! We'll remember your credit card info and shipping address to make your check out easier" accounts. (Which, I must admit, are pretty handy) Their accounts allow you to make a boutique for yourself. Mine is titled "Kendra's Boutique"...Who would have thunk it?

In my boutique I get to see all my favorite brands in the same spot! So...When I'm not looking for anything besides a pick-me-up, I can meander through the walkways of my own boutique and check out all the items that float my boat from my favorite brands.

In addition, Revolve Clothing created a "favorite-ing" option in which you can "favorite" specific items and refer back to them at any time. The favorite option is the same for things such as brands and trends.

Most the emails that get sent to me are "linked" back to my Boutique. So, whenever they get new clothes in from brands I have "Favorited" they let me know! The other emails I receive(once a week or so) are general emails. But, because I often expect them to send me emails with my favorite brands, I check them out! When I like what I see, I can add the new brand or trend to my Boutique and get alerted about it!

So...Basically on Revolve Clothing I get alerted of when they get new items from my favorite brands and an easy way to track what they are carrying.

To be honest, this isn't even half of what the "boutique" option offers. There is much more! As I keep expanding my uses of it, I'll keep you posted!

In a world of too many, too often, and too lame emails...I'm glad some companies are getting it right!

OhMyMonday...

Twittertising 2

One of my favorite forms of marketing is free samples!  This method works great for a lot of different products, such as perfume (how many of you go to perfume counters just to get the free samples...a lot...like I thought), food (Sundays at the grocery store...), and drinks (New Pepsi anyone?).

Well, last week I was on Twitter when an amazing tweet came up from Burberry.  Basically the sky cleared, the heavens opened up and I was invited...to a party.  But seriously, Burberry tweeted that they were mailing out free samples of their new perfume BURBERRY BODY!

To say I was more than a little excited is an understatement.

All you had to do was "like" Burberry on Facebook (look at all this social network marketing!) and click on one of the tabs and fill out some information about you.  Then BAM!  You're in line to get free Burberry perfume!

Now all I have to do is wait...Impatiently.

Twittertising

In my Digital Advertising class we have to have a Twitter account (follow me @schmikaf).  On Twitter I follow some of my favorite brands.  Each brand has its own way of using Twitter for advertising.

After I started following 7 for all mankind, I received a private message from them on Twitter thanking me for following them and that they appreciate me as a customer.  I thought that this was pretty cool, considering that they probably get followed pretty often.  This small jester that they took their time to make made me feel like a valued customer.  Because of that, when I was bored and didn't know what to tweet, I tweeted at them.  If you think about all twelve thousand-plus followers they have...That's a lot of messaging.  And if each follower tweeted or re-tweeted something once, that throws their brand name out there even more!  I love how a large company like 7 for all mankind can make customers feel like they are important and meaningful through something as random as a twitter account.

While I'm speaking fondly of 7 for all mankind, check out these cute jeans!  Like I tweeted: I wish I could find more to buy around here!
